PERCEPTUAL SPACE
"Perceptual space," as
Tom Tuttle calls it, is sometimes more important than its physical
dimensions. Do numbers really count? Everything fits, but somehow
the space "feels" either too small or too large. Visually
overlapping areas, a minor change in proportion, and/or the addition
of vertical elements drawing one's eyes upwards, creates a sense
of space. Similarly, incorporating window seats, dormers, nooks
and other fine details into a room can provide the charm and grace
that will bring a large space down to a cozier, more personal scale.
The best-use creative solutions in design elements are essential
tricks of the trade.
